Why is my name in the WHOIS?
The Internet Corporation of Assigned
Names and Numbers (ICANN) requires
accredited registrars to publish the
registrant's contact information, domain
creation and expiration dates and other
information in the WHOIS listing as
soon as a domain is registered.
Who can see my information?
The name, address and phone number
you submit when you register your
domain is publicly accessible in the
Whois Database by anyone at any
time. This may be good news if you
have domain names you'd like to sell.
Or it may be bad news if your name
and contact info is collected
by a spammer, hacker, untrustworthy
individual or other cyber-criminal.
Domain Privacy will:
- Stop domain-related spam
- End data mining
- Prevent harassers & stalkers
- Deter identity theft & fraud
- Protect your family’s privacy
- And more!

How can I protect my privacy?
To keep your personal data from falling
into the wrong hands, we offer Cheap
Private Domain Registrations. In lieu
of displaying your personal information
in the WHOIS database for all to see,
you remain completely private with a Proxy listing in the Whois registrar database. Your domain will still
belong to you and you retain full rights to transfer, renew, change domain ownership and more. See the difference.
What about my business, I want people to find me?
For businesses, we offer Deluxe
Registration. Use this "virtual business
card" to drive traffic to your website
and increase the reach of your existing
marketing efforts - without sacrificing
your privacy. For domains you can't
afford to lose, there's Protected
Registration. It prevents accidental or
malicious domain transfers and
includes Private and Business
Registration FREE. Find out more.

Domain Name Privacy
Per the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), you must include valid contact information
to the Whois directory for each domain name you register. By purchasing private registration from our affiliate company,
Domains By Proxy® (DBP), you can hide your personal contact information and display proxy information instead.

Private registration is available for many domain name extensions. However, some registries do not allow privacy.
If the registry does not allow privacy, the Privacy tab is not available in the domain name's Upgrade section of the Domain Manager.
To Add Privacy to Your Domain Names
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Next to Domains, click on Launch.
- Place a check mark in the box next to the domain name(s) that you want to add privacy to.
- Click Upgrade.
- From the Registration tab, select Privacy.
- Click Add, and then select one of the following:
- Create a new account — If you do not have a DBP account, DBP creates a new one for you. Then, DBP sends you an email message with your user name, password, and a link to the DBP website. You should save the email message for your records.
- Use an existing account — If you already have a DBP account, enter your login information in the User Name and Password fields.
- Click Checkout, and complete the checkout process.

It can take 24 to 48 hours for the DBP information to display in the Whois database.
For more info. about using your DBP account, see What can I do in my Domains By Proxy account?
